Dynamics of spring barley sowing at the beginning of June 2025

At the beginning of June 2025, Russia is experiencing relatively low rates of sowing of spring barley. According to operational monitoring data, about 5.8 million hectares of the planned 6.5 million hectares have been sown, which is about 89% of the total plan. This is not only lower than on the same date last year, but also the lowest figure in the last seven years.
In the Central Federal District, where the main production of malting barley in the country is concentrated, the sowing campaign is more organized: 1.2 million hectares out of 1.3 million hectares have been sown to date, which corresponds to about 92% of the plan.
According to Statbeer’s forecast, the total harvest of malting barley in 2025 may amount to about 2.1 million tons. There may be a small shortage, which may push up commodity prices during the season.
