Malting barley harvest: forecast for 2025
The forecast of the malting barley harvest in the Russian Federation for 2025 is causing concern among agricultural market experts. In the European part of the country, where the main areas of cultivation of this crop are concentrated, adverse weather conditions contribute to an increase in the risks of reducing the quality of the crop. Currently, experts note the likelihood of deterioration of indicators not only for malting barley, but also for food wheat.
Of particular concern is the situation in southern Russia, where the lowest harvest in the last five years is predicted. However, according to analysts, partial compensation is possible due to a more favorable agrometeorological situation in other regions. In particular, in Central Russia, a return to standard yield indicators is expected after a weak harvest season in 2024. In the Volga region, grain harvest is projected at the level of long-term averages.
Market participants are paying attention to the heavy precipitation forecast by forecasters — up to 60-70 mm — in a number of key agricultural regions in the coming days. This phenomenon can lead to delays in harvesting operations and negatively affect the quality of harvested grain. This is especially important for crops that have strict requirements for quality parameters, including malting barley.Against the background of continuing weather risks and a projected decrease in yields in certain regions of the country, experts expect an increase in prices for malting barley. Increased demand from the brewing industry with limited supply could increase price pressure in the coming weeks.
