Russia has recorded a drop in vodka and cognac production since the beginning of 2025, but beer production has increased

The volume of strong alcohol production in Russia in the first quarter of 2025 decreased by 26.6% compared to the same period last year, amounting to 32.5 million decaliters. Such data is provided by Rosalokoltabakcontrol. The only exceptions were still and sparkling wines, the production of which showed growth. The reason for the decline in the department is the increase in excise rates and minimum retail prices since January.
Against this background, the production of beer and beer drinks, on the contrary, showed growth: in January–February 2025, the volume increased by 2.6% compared to the same period in 2024. The growth is due to an increase in the production of beer drinks. At the same time, the average price per liter of beer in Russia increased by 3.1% in the first two months of the year.
Experts predict that strong alcohol may rise in price by 5-10% by the May holidays due to seasonal demand and increased logistical costs. Prices for beer and low—alcohol beverages will also continue to rise, but more moderately – within 3-5%. Despite the rise in price, the demand for alcohol before the May holidays has traditionally remained high. Retail chains increase purchases in advance and actively carry out promotions, which can visually smooth out price increases.
