The Government denied Efes the purchase of the Russian business AB InBev Efes

The State Commission for the Control of Foreign Investments rejected the application of Efes Breweries International BV, through which the Turkish brewer Anadolu Efes operates, to acquire a stake in the Russian joint venture AB InBev Efes from the Belgian Anheuser-Busch InBev.
The reasons for the refusal are not specified. Anadolu Efes reported that business in Russia continues to operate as usual under the management of Anadolu Efes.
In December 2023, it became known that Anheuser-Busch InBev had agreed to sell its stake in the Russian joint venture to its partner, the Turkish company Anadolu Efes, which was supposed to become the sole owner of the business. It was agreed that AB InBev would not receive any advance payments, but could expect compensation in the future, depending on the success of the business. According to estimates, the company’s value was about $1.2 billion. AB InBev announced its intention to sell its stake in 2022.
