The government will consider the possibility of malt control

Russia may begin to control the volume of malt used for beer production. At the last meeting of the State Commission for Combating Illicit Trafficking in Industrial Products, which is overseen by First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, representatives of various departments discussed the problem of counterfeiting in the beer industry and possible measures to combat it. Among the proposals, the issue of monitoring the volume of malt used in beer production was considered. The impetus for the development of the initiative could be the imbalance in the industry: in January–November, beer production in Russia increased by 9.9%, while malt production decreased by 3% over the same period.
Denis Manturov instructed the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Finance and the operator of the CRPT labeling system to study the feasibility of tracking malt movement in the federal Grain information system by the end of the first quarter.
However, this innovation may place an additional burden on suppliers of raw materials, which, in turn, can push prices up.
