The growth of hop production in Russia in 2025 may exceed 22%, the Ministry of Agriculture reported

According to the ministry, the positive trend has continued over recent years: if in 2021 the gross harvest amounted to 194.4 tons, then in 2024 it reached 328.8 tons, which is 1.7 times more. The 400-ton mark is expected to be exceeded this season.

At the same time, hop plantation areas are expanding — in 2024, they grew by 6.9%, reaching 332.4 hectares. The pace of laying new plantations also showed significant growth: 136.9 hectares against 36 hectares a year earlier. Chuvashia remains the production leader with 218 tons, while Krasnodar Krai, Mari El, the Altai Republic and the Lipetsk Region are also among the key regions. In 2025, new plantings are planned in the Voronezh Region.

At the same time, the domestic market remains dependent on supplies from abroad. According to the data of the Foreign economic activity, in 2024, 3,881 tons of hops in granules and about 500 tons in the form of an extract were imported to Russia. Taking into account the projected harvest of 400 tons in 2025, the industry’s supply of its own raw materials will amount to about 6.2% with a demand of at least 6.5 thousand tons of hops, even according to the most conservative estimates.

The Ministry stressed that the development of domestic hop production is aimed at reducing the dependence of the brewing industry on the import of raw materials. Government support measures are a significant incentive, such as subsidies for planting and caring for perennial plantings with an increasing coefficient, as well as preferential loans and leasing, including financing land reclamation.

Thus, the industry demonstrates steady growth and expansion of the geography of production, which allows us to count on strengthening Russia’s position in providing its own brewers with raw materials and a gradual reduction in import supplies.
