Unplanned increase in beer excise tax
01.10.2024
The Russian government has submitted a bill providing for an increase in excise taxes on beer in 2025 to 30 rubles per liter. At the moment, the excise tax is 26 rubles per 1 liter of beer with an ethyl alcohol content from 0.5 to 8.6%
The initiative is aimed at increasing federal budget revenues, curbing alcohol consumption in the country and is conditioned by the need to index excise taxes due to inflation.
Experts have already expressed concern about the possible impact of this increase on the market. Representatives of brewing companies predict an increase in product prices.
The bill will be considered by the State Duma in the near future, and if it is approved, the new excise taxes will come into force on January 1, 2025.
